Wickham entertained Thatcham Tornadoes at the triangle field in a game which was always going to be very close. Last time out Thatcham won 2-1 (despite Wickham having 5 goals disallowed for off side) with a late goal with it be any different this time?
Tornadoes were quickest out of the blocks scoring after only 40 seconds from a shot which seemed to be deflected up and over Thomas H in goal. Wickham took over 5 minutes to recover from this during which time Marcus, Harry and Alex E. kept the visitors at bay. Ryan and Jamie were getting caught off side from through balls from the midfield. Finally, after good work from Ellis his pass found Thomas S who sent a lovely though ball into the path of Ryan. This time he was able to race clear went round the keeper and slammed the ball into the back of the net. During the rest of the half Wickham tried to hit the ball over the top but the slope ensured the ball either ran away from the forwards for a goal kick or into the keepers arms.
The second half saw Thatcham dominate but never getting a shot on target requiring Thomas H to make a save. As the game was coming to an end a cross came in from the left which inexplicably the Thatcham no7 used hit elbow to bring under control. The ref had no choice but to give a penalty which Marcus duly put away sending the keeper the wrong way. There then followed 3 minutes of constant Thatcham pressure but time was eventually called as Wickham were breaking nto Thatcham half. This moved Wickham up to 4th place on equal points with Wolversdene but with a poor goal diverence.
