Wickham visited Purton Westbrook in the first round of the cup with a full squad of players available and looking to progress further in this competition.
Purton kicked off but were soon on the defensive as Karl made huge inroads down the right hand side. In the third minute a throw in from Jordan S went to Jack B who flicked it inside to William in space. He took a touch and then drilled it across the keeper into the back of the net. After a Purton attack which was eventually scrabbled away the ball went down field to Karl on the half way line. He went down the wing then cut inside up the byline before drilling in a shot. This was well saved but William was following in to make it 2-0. With 12 minutes gone Josh replace Oli on the left and was soon on the score sheet.. Another break down the right by Karl saw the ball swung into the box. This time it cleared everyone but William gathered the ball and hit in a left footed cross which was headed in by Josh. With 17 minutes gone Karl this time cut inside and hit a powerful drive in off the post. Jordan B and Aiden now came on in defence and continued the good work at the back with Charlie replacing Jack B up front. A clearance from Aiden found Josh on the left. He tucked the ball inside to William who then chipped the defender leaving Karl with a clear run in on goal to score his second of the day. With 5 minutes of the half remaining Charlie and Josh combined well in midfield before setting William free. His initial drive was well saved but he followed it up and tucked the ball away for 6-0. A lovely worked corner saw Jordan Burnett drill the ball inside the near post for a 7-0 half time lead.
Straight from the restart Josh was sent away down the left, he went past his man switched it to Oli on the right who tucked the ball inside for William to tap the ball in for his 200th goal for the club. Three minutes into the half a long kick from Ben was flicked on by Charlie straight to Josh who scored his second with a well struck goal from the edge of the area. Charlie then turned goal scorer finishing off a flowing move which started with Aiden at the back and then switched from side to side before finally ending up in the back of the net. The Purton keeper was playing a blinder making saves from William, Karl, Josh and Charlie. Jack Moore now came on to replace Charlie up front and he too was denied on a number off occasions the Purton keeper. He even had a shot which came crashing back off the post, but finally, when he had a golden opportunity to score, he drew the keeper before laying the ball off sideways to Josh for him to become the second person to complete a hat trick. Near the end Karl also completed his hat trick ensuring Wickham progress into the next round of the cup with an emphatic 12-0 victory
The Player of the Day went to Karl for his wing play in the first half constantly finding space, getting past the defenders and getting some telling crosses in.
