29th Jan 2006: vs. Fairford

The away game at Fairford saw Jordan Shaw and Aiden not available. With 10 minutes before kick off time Jack Moore & Josh were missing in the Wiltshire countryside and Ian was waiting at a petrol station to guide them in. Thus the match started without Captain and Manager.

With only one recognised defender at the ground Jordan Burnett dropped back into defence and Charlie lead the line. Wickham kicked off and immediately won a corner but this was dealt with well. However in the second minute a corner was hit across by Karl, William flicked it on at the near post and Charlie was on hand to slot the ball home. In the fifth minute Karl knocked the ball inside to William who then gave a nice return pass. Karl went past the last defender before driving the ball across the keeper into the far corner for 2-0. Three minutes later Ian arrived pitch side just in time to see an in swinging corner from Karl helped into the back of the net by the Fairford keeper. The Wickham pressure was relentless but when Fairford did break Jack and Jordan were there to cut out the danger. In the 14th minute Charlie was fouled about 15 yards out. William took the free kick and duly slotted it just under the bar for 4-0. Two corners in quick succession from Fairford were well dealt with by the Wickham defence which was then quickly followed by one for Wickham which Jordan just headed over the bar. Shortly after this Jack broke up a Fairford attack and feed the ball to Karl on the right. He cut inside his man then sent in strong drive towards Charlie who was in front of the keeper. Charlie stepped over the ball which seemed to confuse the keeper and the ball ended up in the net giving Karl his hat trick. With 20 minutes gone, another corner from Karl this time found Jordan powering forwards and this time his header hit the back of the net giving Wickham a half time 6-0 lead.

With Ben having to go home Jordan now stepped back into goal with Jack Moore playing in his normal defensive role. Charlie was given a well earned rest with Josh playing on the left and Olly moving up front. The change around seemed to effect the lads with the slick passing and movement only seen in small spells. Snap shots were taken in front of goal instead of a touch being taken and then the ball tucked away. The two Jack's in defence let very little go past them and when a Fairford player did get past William was tracking back to help out. With 12 minutes of the half gone, Josh picked the ball up just in is own half and went on a mazy run. After ignoring two free players in the middle he eventually slotted the ball across the keeper into the far corner for 7-0. More chances were created and wasted but Wickham were fortunate not to give away a penalty shortly after being refused one themselves. With two minutes of the game remaining Josh scored again which was almost an exact copy of his first goal except this time he seemed to be trapped in the corner but wriggled free to score from a tight angle.

Player of the Day went to Jack Bolton for an excellent defensive performance.
