Wickham were forced into a change as Karl had injured himself on Friday night so only 10 players were available to face this week’s new visitors, Fairford.
Wickham started the game well and were in the Fairford half for all of the first four minutes but a break away saw Dominic Phipps lob the ball over Ben Grey in goal, to open the scoring for the visitors. Wickham continued to press forwards but after 11 minutes were again caught out as four Fairford players broke on two defenders, which eventually ended with Finley Gordon putting the visitors 2-0 up. The game continued in the same vain with Wickham unable to convert their chances. A powerful drive from William crashed against the cross bar and came out and with no one following in was cleared by the defence. Finally towards the end of the half a corner from the right found Jordan Shaw at the back post. His initial shot was partially cleared but only to Josh who crashed it in making the half time score 1-2.
Neither Ian nor John could find much to say to the lads except pass the ball a little earlier and keep on playing goods football and the goals would come. The game was turned on its head early in the second half as a Fairford throw in was won. Charlie went through, drew the defender and set William up to score. Two minutes later Jack M. intercepted the ball at the back and knocked it forward to Josh. Charlie made a great dummy run freeing up William who drove the ball in to the back of the net with his left. With two more minutes gone William completed his hat-Trick with a drive from just outside the area as Wickham now took total control of the game. Wickham’s next chance was scrambled off the line but three minutes later Charlie de Fraine scored following a nice passing sequence involving five Wickham players. With 6 minutes left Jordan S. set Oli away. William broke to the right and as Oli drew the defender he stilled the ball to William who then coolly slotted away his 4th. When Jordan Shaw scored Wickham’s 7th with a minute remaining the game was well and truly over.
