Wickham were still without Jordan Shaw who had not yet received the all clear from his Doctor following his operation so Jon kept the same starting seven players, with Jordan Burnett staying in defence but this time Olly playing up front.
Wickham kicked off and immediately went on the attack. In the first minute, two corners were played into the box but both were well defended. Two minutes later a great cross field ball seemed to have put Karl away but the last defender just managed to get the tackle in. Wickham continued to press forwards and after 12 minutes made the breakthrough as Jordan picked up the ball in defence and went almost the whole length of the field, going past the Stratton defenders. As he reached the edge of the box he let fly only to see the ball take a deflection off one of the defenders but it still ended up in the back of the net. From the kick off Ben made a spectacular save ensuring that Wickham retained the lead remained longer than last week. Two minutes later a great save from the visitors keeper kept Karl’s shot, from the edge of the box, out. Just to prove this was no fluke, he did the save again a minute later. The final stages of the half seemed to be all Wickham but some good saves and narrow misses meant that the half time score remained 1-0. It seemed that Wickham were never going to score again.
The second half started in much the same way with Karl having an early chance which went wide. After 5 minutes Jack More was replaced by Aiden and William was replace with Jack Bolton. Almost immediately Wickham had a corner which Karl floated into the centre. The keeper parried the ball out but there was Jack Bolton, who hit the ball into the back of the net. Karl was having a great game on the right and was getting lots of close attention from the Stratton defenders, twice needing treatment in the first 10 minutes. Half way through the half Jack More replaced Olly up front with Olly moving in to midfield, where he replaced Josh. Olly had a great chance to extend Wickham’s lead but fired his shot into the side netting. Stratton then had their best period of play, testing the Wickham defence to the full but Aiden and Jordon stayed strong. Despite more chances, Wickham could not get the third to make the game safe. Near the end William replaced Jordon in defence. Soon afterwards a corner was conceded which was only partially cleared. It was swung back into the area and eventually forced over the line for 2-1. Stratton then had a chance to equalise but the ball was scrabbled away. Next Jack Moore was beautifully put through by Karl but the keeper made it difficult and Jack fired into the side netting. Another fine save right at the end again denied Jack as Wickham just managed to keep their 100% league record.
The Player of the Day award went to Jordan Burnett for a great display in defence and for creating the first goal.
