18th Dec 2005: vs. Liden Community

The final game of 2005 was away against Liden Community FC. With the two Jack's unavailable and Charlie becoming ill at the ground Wickham were left with only eight players.

Jordan Burnett was again ask to play at the back, a position he is now becoming quite used to with Olly starting up front. With only 2 minutes gone Olly was down injured after a late challenge but after some attention he was able to carry on. Liden were playing with three at the back which made Olly's job very difficult. Midway through the first half William won the ball for a drop ball and sent Olly away. Despite losing it in the corning he battled back and got a cross into the box. Unfortunately it was too long for Josh but he was able to retrieve the situation laying the ball back to William on the edge of the area to fire home. Straight from the kick off Wickham won the ball back and it was Olly's turn to put William through on the right. However as the angle got tighter and the keeper coming out he could only hit the ball over the bar.

Liden changed things around in the second half only playing two at the back. Wickham brought Aiden on for Jordan Shaw but he seemed strangle out of sorts. Although Wickham had more pressure, creating lot of chances they could not convert at least 5 one on ones with the keeper, non of them forcing him to make a save. After 15 minute of the half William was brought down near the half way line. Jordan Burnet hit the ball into the penalty area where the keeper punched it out to the right where Olly was. After controlling it he hit it wide of the keeper into the left hand corning with Karl following the ball into the net just to make sure. A minute late Liden were awarded the softest of penalty kicks as the forward went easily down under Jordan Shaw's challenge. Despite Ben getting a hand to it the ball went into the top left hand corner. Four minutes later, Karl seemed to have scored again as a Liden defender got caught up in the goal net clearing the ball but all that happened was play was stopped to get the player out of the net. Both side had some more chances but Wickham hewld on for their 9th league win of the season.

Player of the Day went to Karl for his drive and effort in midfield.
