For the opening League match of the season Wickham only had William missing from the squad and everyone wanted to put behind then the defeat against Didcot.
The game started well with Josh and Karl passing well down the left, with Josh crossing the ball and the keeper making a good save. Josh, Karl and Jack Bolton were battling well in the midfield and after 5 minutes Jack Bolton was put through by Karl, but his last touch let him down and the keeper made the save. The rest of the first half went from end to end with both teams having chance after chance, but Jordon Shaw and Jack Moore both stayed strong, with Ben actually having very little to do.
At the start of the second half, Old Town broke away with just Ben to beat, but out of no where Jordon Shaw arrived to clear for a corner, and that was the sign of things to come. Jordon was having a great game, never missing a tackle when one had to be made but normally getting to the ball first. A rock in defence. With five minutes gone Karl went down the right and crossed which was saved by the keeper. Karl took the corner, which fell at Jordon Shaw's feet at the back post and after a big scramble it was put in by Oli for 1-0. From the kick off Old Town went down the left, a cross came in and was clear by Jack Moore only for it to fall to a Old Town player who hit a very good shot which rattled the cross bar. From the goal kick Josh went the length of the field, beat the last man with a sweet step over, and hit an unstoppable shot in to the far corner, 2-0. The game went flat for 5 minutes with Karl, Josh and Charlie battling hard for the ball and Jordon Shaw not letting any one through. With 12 minutes gone, a ball over the top from Karl put Oli through, he held of the Old Town player well and hit a rocket into the top corner for 3-0.
With 10 minutes to go Old Town crossed the ball in the Wickham box, Jordon Shaw jump with his hands up and unfortunately the ref gave a penalty. However Ben was up to the challenge diving low down to the right to make the save. In the last 5 minutes Old Town hit the post, and Wickham had another chance to score with Jack Bolton, but in the end Wickham run out 3-0 winners.
