Wickham 2 - 0 Kingsclere

Wickham hosted the first match against Kingsclere on a blustery morning at the triangle field with 10 lads available.

Match 25

Playing against the wind the lads found it difficult initially to get out of their own half. However it was Wickham who had the first chance as Josh broke through from the left only to hit the ball over the bar.

Almost straight away Kingsclere went down the right, the whole of the Wickham defence moved across leaving two Kingsclere players free in the box to score easily.

Straight from the kick-off Wickham went on the attack. Josh found himself cutting in from the left but the ball was on his right foot so he laid it off to Karl to equalise. The visitors continued to press forwards and with 5 minutes left their dangerous no 15 robbed Thomas Philips in midfield, managed to keep Aiden just behind him as he went round William and then fired past Ben as he came out (see Video clip) for a nicely taken solo goal. Right at the end of the half Ben's goal kick was intercepted and drilled straight back past him.

Despite being 3-1 down the lads pressed constantly during the second half but the final shot was either just wide or well saved so they went down to only their 2nd defeat of the season.

Match 26

For the second match Wickham started with a stronger side to battle against the wind, which they did very well. The first half was very even with Ben able to clear his lines better and the defender marking up the forwards from goal kicks but again Wickham did not have their shooting boots on as the keeper was never tested thus the half time score was goalless.

Surprisingly he was replaced at half time with the keeper from the first match but Wickham now dominated the game. Lewis had come on for Aiden and was involved in the opening goal. With 7 minutes gone a clearance from Ben found Karl on the right. He knocked the ball into Lewis who in turn laid it out to William on the left. He took a touch, cut inside onto his right foot and hit the ball into the top right hand corner. Wickham won the ball back from the centre and immediately had a chance but it was well saved. Kingsclere went down the other end only for Ben to save well who then immediately cleared the ball to Josh. Lewis made a great run in front of Josh drawing the defender away which allowed Josh a clear run on goal to double the lead. With the aggregate scores now level Kingsclere brought all their subs on but Wickham still pressed forward. A brilliant one handed save by Ben maintained Wickham's advantage but his clearance then put Josh away. Josh got to the by line, went past his man and then hit his cross to Lewis, unmarked at the back, but before the ball could reach him a defender knocked it into the net for 3-0. Three goals in as many minutes sealed the game for Wickham as, in the end; they deservedly ran out winners on the day.
