On Friday 7th May the Wickham Wanderers Under 8's
side played in their first ever 6 a side tournament at
Devizes. They were in a group with Larkhall,
Chippenham, Trowbridge and Warminster all of whom play
against each other in their local league. |

Chineham 0 - 1 Wickham (Josh) It was a wet, windy Sunday morning with the rain
lashing down as the players waited in Pizza Hut's car
park. A quick call to Chineham confirmed that the games
were on, although a 2nd phone call on the way almost
called off the fixtures. On arriving at the ground the

fixture played against Thatcham Harriers. It was agreed
that since it was not a league match, a six a side

Wickham 2 - 1 Oakley (Aiden, 2) With Ian away for the weekend Clive
was in charge of the lads. Unfortunately only six were
available and most of these were suffering with colds.
As Oakley also had six players it was agreed to play
two 6-a-side games. |

fixture against Newbury. Ian had tried to work on the
faults from the previous weekend and reminded the guys
about spreading out, passing the ball but also marking
the Newbury players. |

England’s win against France in the Rugby World
Cup Semi-Final, Wickham were looking to continue their
undefeated start to the season. |

Hungerford 1 - 2 Wickham (Josh, William) Almost full availability saw 10 boys turn up for the "Derby" against Hungerford. The boys were put into "two teams" for the first half of game one with them playing up the hill. |

Ian’s initial thoughts were to again play the lads in two different units but this plan went out of the window after going one down in the first half. |

Wickham 3 - 2 Sherborne (Includes a goal from the Wickham Goal Keeper - Ben Grey, William and Aiden) Wickham 6 - 1 Sherborne (William Herrington 4, Josh Way 2) With 9 players available Ian decided to set up two teams with them each playing 5 minutes of the first half with Ben Grey always in goal. After the first half then the players would be mixed around. |

Without Jordan and William who had scored 10 goals between them the previous week the Wickham midfield looked on paper a little weak. Jack was back returning from holiday and Dec Hess had also joined the squad. |

Following two weeks of Wednesday night training, Woolton Hill Argyle were the first opposition to come to the triangle field. Only Jack, who was away on holiday, was missing from last season’s squad, and with sides now down to only five players Ian had a difficult task in picking the starting five. |
