At the fourth time of trying, Wickham Wanderers and A.F.C. Newbury at long last managed to complete their Peter Houseman Youth League Cup Semi-Final tie, with the prize for the winners being a place in the Final against Basing Rovers. The tie, which was originally due to be played on 7th March, had been postponed on three separate occasions, due to a faulty and unsafe crossbar, a waterlogged pitch, and poor weather conditions. Wickham Wanderers earned their first league point of the season with a spirited performance against a strong Down Grange side. Down Grange put pressure on the Wickham defence from the start, but it was Wickham who took an early lead. Jamie Crook won the ball in midfield, and Charlie Allsop collected the loose ball and sent a brilliant through ball to Man-of-the-Match Dave Cullen, who rounded the keeper before stroking the ball into the net.

Wickham Wanderers got off to the worst possible start against high-flying Basing Rovers when they conceded a goal after just 17 seconds. It was Wickham who had kicked off to start the match, but they were quickly dispossessed, and Dean Perry set off down the right-hand flank before cutting in to the box, and firing an unstoppable shot into the roof of the Wickham net.

The Newbury team controlled the first half, and although they had a number of chances to open the scoring, it looked as though they would be denied the goal that their attacking efforts deserved, until Oliver Graham lobbed the Wickham keeper shortly before half-time.

The newly promoted Wickham Wanderers Under 12’s Football team suffered a disappointing start to the new campaign when they lost 4 - 0 at Basingstoke Colts. As a consequence of injuries to key members of the squad, Wickham had only 10 players available for the match, and they battled hard to contain a full-strength Basingstoke team.
